Goodbye Year 6

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

I’ve known you all since you were 6 and 7 years old. Miss Savage and I went to collect you from the Infants on your transition day and you came to have a look around the classroom. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, these little Year 2s are so tiny and small, they’ll be so shy and quiet, I must really try to make them feel comfortable when they’re in here’. And then I watched you walk around this unfamiliar classroom where everything was really big and intimidating. And then I saw two children, (not naming any names…) sit at my desk and spin themselves round and round on the adult chair whilst rifling through at all the papers on my desk, and that’s when I thought, ‘Oh, they’re a lively bunch’.

I taught you all in year 3, 5 and 6, and I really feel like I know you so well. I honestly don’t know what I’ll do when you leave – Year 3, 4 and 5 are mainly a mystery to me at the moment. I know the subjects you prefer, I know what you’re good at, I know what you find difficult. I know your hobbies. I know what you find funny: not my jokes, that’s for sure – not a very good sense of humour. But most of all, I know that you are kind – you have each other’s back and you support each other.

You are confident – if you believe in something, you will speak your mind, you will question things and question why so that you understand something.

You are hard working. You really did throw your all into your SATs because you wanted to do well for yourselves and the school – and you did.

And you are generous, a prime example of this being the leavers party last week, in the same week as the summer fair. So many donations of food and prizes from everybody.

You have all been hugely successful on your journey throughout Moss Park Junior School, something that I know parents will have seen and something I know the staff here have witnessed. I am immensely proud of you all and I really wish you the best of luck in your secondary school. I hope that you achieve everything you want to and become exactly what you want to be. And please keep us up-to-date and come back and see us to let us know these things.

Good luck, Class of 2017!

Miss Higson
